Is there any real money in this though?
only if youre the one producing the final product. i knew a dude who was retired but making more than he did pre-retirement by making custom metal 'stuff.'
one of his contracts was with the local power company to make custom thingys. i dont remember what they were. -

I have an idea for something else but haven't really started yet…
i thought the same thing but im always fabricating stupid shit from crap i buy at the store or 'find' somewhere else. currently im working on making a custom bracket for my car to shoe-horn in a canister transmission enhancement/enhancement housing.
also a 'crane' setup for working on things i need to hang and manipulate that are heavy. ideally i would have cut/bent/welded the metal parts then powder coated/cerakoted but as it went, i used store-bought metal bracket thingys that i just painted with truck bed liner.
another of the ghetto-ass fabrications is covers/armor for my A/C window units. they were made from angle iron/thin-gauge steel mesh/blind-rivets only because that was the 'easiest' way of doing it. i wanted to use custom cut steel edges, 14-gauge steel mesh with all of it riveted together then either powder coated by a shop or cerakoted by myself...but i didnt have the proper gear to do that -
