Seriously? I wouldn't have imagined you playing something like this. You're well on your way to becoming a fellow weeb. Try some anime next.
I mean Ive watched anime. Ive enjoyed anime. But only verrrrrryyyy veryyy specific kinds. And the art style has to be like normal proportioned, adult-style stuff. If theyve got big stupid eyes and squeaky annoying voices, Im gonna be out 99.9% of the time. Like my filipino co-worker was trying to recommend stuff to me, and said i would just LOVE "Kill la Kill. Watched like two episodes and was so incredibly bored. Creepy japanese allusions to naked 15 year olds. The "MY UNIFORMS LEVEL IS HIGHER THAN YOURS YOULL NEVER DEFEAT ME" gay shit. The squeaky voices. Idk if its called chibi? But the cutesy stuff.
Stuff I have liked:
Hellsing Black Lagoon Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo Ghost in the SHell Ninja Scroll Death Note Berserk/ Berserk: Golden Age Arc Fullmetal Alchemist Naruto/shippuden (the art style made me like it but it got too drawn out) The Animatrix Elfen Lied (was okay) Bleach Knights of Sidonia
I only started playing Doki Doki because people said it only had the FACADE of a gay anime dating-sim. I guess thats kind of true, but it was still a little more teen-geared than I thought itd be. The metagame stuff was interesting, but it wouldnt go on any of my favorite lists.
Also FMA and Deathnote have really inaccurate art styles (everyone's a noddle person in deathnote and the range in the size of adults in FMA is ridiculous) but I get what you mean.
Knights of Sidonia is under rated. Lots of people loath it for the CG, honestly it was pretty bad, but the was cool enough sci-fi to make up for it
FMA was at the far end of what my brain finds acceptable. Death Note just seemed stylized, but at least its not a 3 foot tall pink haired girl with eyes that take up 1/3 of her face. Idk. Certain stuff is just an immediate turn off. I guess bleach was kinda in between too, but that list should give a general idea of what type of stuff I like.
Yeah the CG in Knights of Sidonia was pretty blatant, but it didnt really ruin anything for me. Everything else was really good.
I've reinstalled Arma 3 and started playing some serverside mods like King of The Hill and Altis Life which is essentially a GTA remake in the game engine.

Where should I start with MGS if I don't want to break out a PS1 emulator? Is there a PC release that's a reasonable jumping off point into the series?

PC version of MGS1 sucks cock. Just emulate it. Kohima is a japanfag so he has some kind homoerotic relationship with Sony hardware.
If you REALLY don't want to emulate, just watch a Let's Play. I'd recommend that for MGSIV anyway because A) there are no good PS3 emulators that can run it full speed and B) the gameplay is OK but 90% of the game is retarded cutscenes so it's not a big deal.
MGSV is the first mechanically GOOD MGS game IMO (ignoring Peace Walker) so I think a Let's Play is a decent option to lead into it

I actually do have a PS3, how does PS1 emulation work? Can I just throw an ISO on there and away we go? I'd be willing to give sony some money if they have it in some kind of like, uhh, retro store or whatever.

Well since you have a PS3 first, it solves the whole thing.
You can buy the MGS HD Collection (which includes MGS 2 3 and Peace Walker in HD) for $14 off the PSN Store right now, and buy MGS 1 off the PSN Store for $6. MGS4 is like 10 bucks on eBay.

The HD Collection is worth it at that price for Peace Walker alone. It's the best MGS game IMO, the controls could be a lot better since it was originally made for the PSP but it's a phenomenal game. MGS 3 is great too, but mostly for the story in my eyes.
