$50 is a small price to pay for a completely separate internet service that's not attached to you. Plus, you can constantly replace those prepaid devices along with accounts(email, forum, etc) and erase a digital trail.
Your only problem would your location getting logged via stingrays. But there are ways around this, to an extent… -

from my os monitor it seems like its trying to connect to amazon naws for some unknown reason .... and it hung for like 5-7minutes everytime upon start up.
the old one connects immediately to the internet upon startup. -
