   As others have said, impersonal is more for fame and/or mental distress.
   
   It's basically not getting personal with the victim. No rape, no torture, no looking into the eyes of the victim as you kill him/her, no long-term stalking beforehand. Quick and easy, maybe at a distance, and no hanging around with the body.

    I find the tone really interesting - he had a rough life too, but the thing that interests me about it is the way he describes his own actions. He never tries to make excuses for what happened, he doesn't apologise and he doesn't justify it - but at the same time it's not like he's avoiding responsibility either. It's strange and cold, literally feels like 'bad things happen - the book'.
