There's no good reason to bring your entire gun collection with you;

One theory I've seen backed by 'anonymous sources' is that Paddock was involved in a weapons trade on behalf of the FBI that went wrong - they'd meant to trade the weapons to a terrorist group

but if your terrorist wouldnt you also buy many of the same type of weapon so that you wouldnt have to seek diverse types of ammo and ''clips'' ???

By all accounts he was successful, but he was also old and detached from his immediate family.

I think it's rather stigmatizing and damaging that so many people have this dismissive attitude that the answer to things like this is simply mental illness. People with mental illness are no more likely than other people to commit violence, and people just assume that's the sole answer any time something like this happens.

That said, the math is solid - this is exactly what I was referring to. He uses two separate points from the same audio stream (ie. higher-pitched strikes on the pavement vs lower-pitched gunfire) so you don't have to worry about the video and audio or two audio files being out of sync with each other, and the timing difference is significant. To be certain he's right you'd have to analyse his work and make sure that he did match the gunshots correctly to the 'ricochet' sounds but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt there (because verifying would be too much like hard work). The triangulation suggestion is an excellent idea and would be worth looking into if you could get a hold of a few geo-coded videos of the event. As a private investigator you could get in contact with the uploaders who put the videos on youtube and ask them for the raw files, then you could do the same analyses and use the geolocation data to pinpoint where each circle should be.

There is one possibility he didn't take into account though - it's possible that there was just the one shooter, but he was using different kinds of ammunition. He may have packed one magazine with standard rounds, but the next magazine contained higher-pressure or wildcat rounds - this would cause bullets to travel at different speeds, resulting in the apparently mismatched timings between firing and impact.

only thing I disagree with is mentally ill people having a lower predisposition for violence - of course it depends on the illness, but I'd doubt you'd be able to find worthwhile statistics on that.

Here's the best page I found for multiple cited statistics relevant specifically to violence and mental illness:

    http://depts.washington.edu/mhreport/facts_violence.php

And this study seems to go into some specifics:

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2686644/

From what I can tell, they're not less likely to be violent but rather just about as likely as the general population.

Maybe a slight higher risk for severe mental illness, but the perception of the general public and the portrayal in media is way overblown.

Mentally ill people have motives too - sometimes their motives are completely sane and it's their illness that forces them to act. Leaving motives 'mental illness' as the sole reason for outbursts like this only serves to mask real causes.

Besides, I'd be interested to see what mental illness could explain why he thought it was a good idea to bring 20 guns to a mass shooting.

I'm not saying "mental illness" as a proximal cause, but the ultimate cause. For example, Adam Lanza probably had some fucked up justification/reason in his head for what he did. But ultimately, it takes a pretty sick individual to decide to shoot up a school full of kids, or a concert crowd. Hence mental illness.

My point is, I think there probably wasn't any larger agenda or objective behind it, it's just a crazy motherfucker doing crazy motherfucker things for crazy motherfucker reasons.

SWIM is planning a much larger attack that will take place on 4/20 next year, and his motivation is simply misanthropy.

Good on this guy though, he racked up a decent kill count for once.

Well dude, how many people have committed mass shootings that you could really say were sane?

You could have gotten in a lot of trouble for this if you hadn't used "SWIM"

It's from the same video but which video did he use? Was it a long one that involved people running or moving around? He doesn't really say but as he said in his analysis, the bullet velocity starts faster than the speed of sound but drops off very quickly with time, and the shooter isn't really that far away, so I could imagine that if the person taking the video was running away from the shots over the time the video was taken, the lag time would be less.

Of course that should be pretty trivial for guys like this to pick up on, but who's to say he's not purposely leaving details out in order to fabricate some story and deceive people?
