2017-10-15 at 12 PM UTCTkinter is such an ancient toolkit, it has been helping Python fuckers FOREVER. https://docs.python.org/2/library/tkinter.html - I once used it to make a bullshit GUI around my trojan backdoor I fondly named "badcats". I sent it to my unsuspecting girlfriend and her friends as a 14 year old boy and it allowed me remote access of their computers. I used it to do dumb shit like print "YOU'RE A FUCKING SLUT" out of her printer and whatnot. Ha!
PyQt, realistically, is still your best bet, just as you originally thought. Here are some resources for learning it.
