pretty much, overloading the equipment causes heat and eventual equipment failure
like IS said, depending on quality the powerstrip will often melt down before current hits the threshold for your building's circuit breaker -

What do you mean by "overload the outlet"? I'm asking technically, why is it dangerous. Obviously a person with any sort of basic level of intelligence knows that eventually you're going to have too much shit plugged into it. You don't need to know anything about electronics to know that. -
