Is it just because if you end up plugging like 20 things into a power strip meant for 8 that it would draw too much current and start a fire?
What I'm trying to get at is if I daisy chain 2 or 3 power strips together but only have a few things plugged in, is there any sort of fire risk?

Cuz they r usually made in China with junk components, small wire, shoddy workmanship, and with no regard for your safety.
Then before u know it §m£ÂgØL is at hydros house plugging 5 of them into each other like extension cords so he can run both of her halal microwave ovens at once and he put an extension cord off one to power up his space heater and run the window air conditioner in the chicken coop.
Next thing u know the power strips are melting like a stick of butter and §m£ÂgØL fell asleep
Well what do u think happens next

§m£ÂgØL never asked for or wanted chickens but he got them

It can just overload the outlet. It's not the act of daisy chaining itself. It's no different than overloading the outlet any other ways.

it depends on the amperage draw of what youre plugging in. under ideal circumstances if more power (amperage) is being drawn through the electrical wiring than the wiring is capable of supporting, a circuit breaker or fuse will cut the power before the wires can melt and cause a barbecue. HOWEVER. the wires/connections in almost all power strips is of far smaller capacity than the hard-wiring, meaning the circuit breaker/fuse that will cut power and protect its wire if its capacity is exceeded WILL NOT trip/blow if the capacity of the power strip wiring/connections is exceeded. generally the power strips have their own fuses/breakers to prevent this. this is why there are so many fires when power strips and extension cords are used.
also...the more connections you make, the more resistance to current flow there is, which creates waste heat.
