   I believe that the "demons", the bad aliens, can make bad things happen to people, to prove to someone they have power, when that someone dabbles in the occult. The "curse" doesn't do the work, though, the bad aliens do. There is no such thing as magic. All "magic" is simply pure science - science advanced enough to appear as to be magic.
