   it would take more time to google it than just look at the image and see that since the patterns are distorted by asymmetry it creates a distorted image. unless the color has something to do with it too because i know blacks and whites in certain patterns can fuck with the perceptual systems like you know those videos where you stare at the center for 30 seconds and then when you look away shit starts morphing

    my answer is better because parallel doesnt explain what causes the optical illusion, if it was just plain parallel lines no visual distortion would occur, but because these parallel lines are asymmetrical in content(and with some contrasting black/white for good measure) it makes the image difficult to perceive with the proper gestalt
