I don't find it be much of a nuisance personally, considering this is a forum for people to type things, I've never understood why people feel disdain towards those who have a predisposition toward writing and enjoying typing more than one-liners or paragraphs. Seems like a fine thing to me. Writing is a fantastic outlet.

Second of all, I think you'll be very disappointed if you go into college expecting it to be full of "substantially more intelligent people." I recently finished up a philosophy class and there was just this massive lack of logic and understanding. I started the class pretty much driving the discussion but very quickly stopped due to almost everybody in there being a total fucking idiot, even the teacher.
For example, when discussing abortion one guy said that he thought it was wrong due to some passage in the bible about god knowing us all since conception. Whatever, right? Theists gonna theist. But lots of people in the class would not accept this and decided to try and prove that the guy was wrong or something. One girl brought up how only women should be able to decide abortion laws. Someone else said that they were Christian too, and that his interpretation was incorrect.
Then the teacher (who also teaches a world religions class) said in nice terms that the bible is outdated and that you can't take it literally. The guy defended this with "It's just my religion." Which OK. There's his system of logic, yeah? Religion. You don't have to agree with it but now you know where he's coming from.
You'd think that'd be the end of it. But no. This discussion went on for nearly an hour with the guy basically defending his belief the entire time with "That's just how I interpret this passage" and no real progress past that point. Like a giant circlejerk. At some point someone did try to end the discussion by defending the religious dude, but they absolutely would not stop trying to persuade him into believing the same as they did. In a philosophy class.
I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I think most people are intelligent. But that class made me have some serious fucking doubts.
In other words: Knowledge =/= Intelligence.
