"the sum of all men" by david farland

all of the scions of the earth series is amazing, but the next story arc in the series is pretty underwhelming and is quite frankly disappointing compared to scions of the earth.

the inheritance (eragon) series by christopher paolini is also solid

There is a sequel, written by Straub and King: Black House [2001]. A very epic read.

    Synopsis

20 years after the events of The Talisman, "Hollywood Jack" Sawyer is a former LAPD detective living in the small town of French Landing, Wisconsin. He is reluctantly drawn out of retirement when FL's chief of police asks Jack's help in hunting down a cannibal serial killer dubbed "the Fisherman," who has been abducting and murdering children in the area.

The killer, 85-year-old nursing-home resident Charles Burnside, is "consensually possessed" by a sadistic demon called Munshun. Mr. Munshun is a servant of the Crimson King, tasked with acquiring child-slaves and searching for new Breakers. Tyler Marshall, the Fisherman's latest abductee, is an extraordinarily powerful Breaker–maybe powerful enough to bring the Tower down himself.

Oh crap, I had a false memory of this thread being about children's books recommendations and didn't click on it again because I don't know any.

    I could have recommended something.

Sell that shit, it's all about pirating these days.

Personally, I don't like physical. A good e-reader should be satisfactory for most who dislike screens, once they become accustomed. Then again, I am unusually driven by reason, so I don't have any attachment based on emotion or habit. Your call, though.

I really regret not keeping a list of every book I read and valued. I specifically did this because at the time I felt there would be no use for it other than convey my preferences to others, which I had no interest in, and is something that would have likely never occurred.

Any Tom Wolfe fans here? I know his early works are what he's most known for, but I thoroughly enjoyed 'I am Charlotte Simmons.' That is my recommendation. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

I ended up with a library so big, most of it hard cover first editions, but also a shit ton of short stories, novels, novellas, anthologies and magazine stories, etc, that they finally started crowding me out of my living spaces, so I got rid of all of them one day. Once you've read the best of them two or three times, no sense hanging onto them. Let someone else read them.

As usual, they fumbled the Dark Tower movie big-time. Total garbage.
