So so sorry, but I stopped using TOR around November of last year, right before it was "official" that the US government could get a search warrant base on 'TOR Usage' alone. I figured, that as a normal law-abiding user of the TOR network, I should stop using it because the US government saw it as a problem and I wanted to co-operate just like any other law-abiding citizen would.
yeah, they're not coming back up. Reddit has a list of active markets; sourcery and dream are the most active as far as I know
I blame reddit for all the police attention they're getting - it's exposure the sites don't need, especially among retarded teenagers. so many people post vendor reviews, product details and even information that police would find useful like stealth methods, general locations and delivery timeframes - instead of using the marketplaces' forums or general tor-hidden messageboards like someone who isn't functionally retarded

Reddit has been under the control of the US government for some time now. Someone else posted a link about it here.
Also, you can't stop the expansion of the dark net and the bleeding of it into the clear net. No need to blame teenagers, it's going to happen anyway and that is helping the vendors that profit from it.

I'm not familiar enough with Ethereum to know for sure whether it's viable, but I've been thinking about using the Ethereum distributed application model to host a marketplace - proceeds from the marketplace would be converted to ETH and used to fund the distributed app, keeping it online and making it un-fucking-bustable

Even though certain agencies claim they made certain busts due to something retarded(like an identical password), they most likely identified the suspect via illegal hacking, and then afterwards came up with a legal way to bust the suspect.
So, if you start a darknet site and it goes big, you make yourself a large target for illegal hacking. Seems like everyone will eventually get broken at some point.

Major bummer. I would occasionally buy from a buddy who amused these marketplaces. Always held off on exploring the darknet until I was absolutely sure I knew what I was doing. Shame there are two fewer marketplaces. One day I will. I just worry my paranoia will get the better of me
