firstly, clarify the term 'shot at.' shot at with what? shoulder fired rifle? missile? torpedo? gun?
secondly...no, you idiots.
there are distinct differences between fishes ('biologicals' in proper terminology) and submarines. anyone shooting at a fish while claiming its a sub loses their job.

i would guess its not too difficult to tell the difference between a whale and a sub on sonar either.

Yes. Especially when sonar and the like were relatively new.

That's a great thought, OP.
I really do appreciate your constant thought, in comparison to the shit posts.
You're not stupid, you think.

sonar kills cetaceans because they get confused and beach themselves

They both use sonar type locating and communication, plus with individual sized subs and suicide cetacean projects developed by many countries (to this day to) plus anti mine measures that use trained dolphins I'm sure more than a few got blasted by torpedoes and deck guns.
Not to mention many soldiers in the second great war were young dumb kids, mistakes and tomfuckery would around, a long with real reasons to kill and accidents, I'm sure tons were shot. Not to mention collisions in water. There's plenty of studies suggesting boat and sub sonar conflict with and confuse animal sonar.
I'd stake money on tons being killed during ww2
