Asteroid 99942 Apophis: This asteroid is one of the most well-known near-Earth objects due to its size and previous risk assessments. Apophis is approximately 1,100 feet (335 meters) across and was initially considered a potential threat when it was discovered in 2004. However, after extensive tracking and analysis, astronomers have ruled out any impact risk for at least the next century. Notably, Apophis will make a close approach on April 13, 2029, passing less than 20,000 miles (32,000 kilometers) from Earth’s surface. This event will be significant as it allows for detailed observation and study of the asteroid.
