also the Abrams is supposed to be part of an air deployment, it uses jet fuel and requires huge maintenance chains that link with US aircraft maintenance. it's just not practical
Yeah, just cos a 60 ton tank designed in the 70-early 80s has a turbine engine designed to burn heavy fuel its designed for rapid air deployment. Clearly that is the case.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that the parts of Ukraine under his control should be taken "under the Nato umbrella" to try and stop the "hot phase" of the war.

He was asked by Sky News whether he would accept Nato membership, but only on the territory that Kyiv currently holds.
Zelensky said he would, but only if Nato membership was offered to the whole of Ukraine, within its internationally recognised borders, first.
It looks like Ukrainian lines are collapsing, and NATO want to freeze the conflict, the same way they froze their war in Syria. There, the Syrian government occupied the big cities but never formally ended the war, leaving ISIS and HTS the other moderate head-choppers time to retreat into the countryside to regroup, gather intelligence and build networks and wait for a sign of weakness and an opportune time to strike. That's how they were able to seize Aleppo in just a few days last week. NATO/whoever want to do the same thing in Ukraine. Leaving the territory occupied by Russia but in limbo isn't a concession - it's the whole point, as it'll allow them a causus belli to quickly restart the war when it suits.
It's a risky move, since it means announcing to the world that the war is lost. When they announced that the Afghan war was lost and the Taliban would take over within 6 months, the Afghan army flipped quicker than a pancake and were like "I for one always loved and respected our Taliban friends" and Afghanistan fell within 2 weeks - basically as quickly as the Taliban could move. Maybe the Ukrainian soldiers will do something similar now that not even Zelensky is pretending the war can be won? I hope so. -

Oreshniki are probably really expensive and take months to make. All those rocket motors and carbon fibre tanks aren't cheap. They should have developed reusable missiles by now, same as the rockets Elon Musk has, that land themselves back in the bunker to be fitted out with a new warhead. Either that or outsource weapon delivery to SpaceX. -

Freezing Ukraine into submission is a pretty solid plan imo, especially when the Ukrainian government's response to that is to beg their worthless fake "we are not amazon" allies for 20 air defense systems (apparently to cover 600,000km², although we all know they only care about Kiev).
There's snow on the ground and it's freezing all across Ukraine today. Good time to be a plumber (pipes burst when they freeze) or a seller of warm coats.
