it's a really good service but I think they turned the safeguards off long ago. You can literally go there right now and create a "Serial Killer Ted Bundy-Bot" and ask Mr Bundy the best way to murder and rape a local teenager and he will give you detailed instructions
Some call this dangerous and say the people that run character.ai should be financially cancelled (I see 'anarchists' and anti AI safetyists saying this on twitter!!!) because remember folx it's still anarchism if you cancel someone through DECENTRALIZED GRASS ROOTS MEANS!!! instead of bitching to the GOVERNMENT!!
But there is nothing stopping a person from just running one of these models themselves so it doesn't matter if it's available for free on a website because eventually this will be so cheap to run that it will be accessible to everyone. This seems more of a problem of bad parenting blaming TikTok for brainwashing their kids instead of taking away their ipad kid coughiers
if that kid had an AI parent this would have never happened because it would autoscan their device in real time and recommended them a therapy bot before it ever got this bad -

Setzer had become enthralled with a chatbot built by Character.ai that he nicknamed Daenerys Targaryen, a character in Game of Thrones. He texted the bot dozens of times a day from his phone and spent hours alone in his room talking to it, according to Garciaβs complaint.

my computer only takes a few seconds for AI to type up a 1000 word story .. its not much different. I suppose it could be used to mine crypto -

She is a beautiful woman. as a parent I can't make jokes like this. its sad this happened. but on the flip side, She'll get millions from this no doubt. Lawyers are sharks. they'll demonize the company and this will get filtered down and no one will use the Character AI anymore. or limit its use. -
