Ends up the Secret Service has 8,000 agents, to guard only 31 protectees in total, but they were "stretched too thin" at the attempted assassination and are now requesting additional funding, even though their funding has doubled in the past 10 years. It also came out the Secret Service had snipers on the very same roof the shooter was on, earlier that day, but they were removed just before the shooting. Also, the Secret Service/Local Law Enforcement meeting was intentionally cancelled the morning of the day of the shooting. It was also discovered the Secret Service that day had the shooter in their scopes for 26 minutes before the shooting, but were denied permission to take him out. The Secret Service had also intentionally cut off communications to local law enforcement on the ground who had already encountered the shooter on the roof.
The leader of the Secret Service said it's kept him up for 17 days (regarding the attempted assassination) and one of the members of Congress told him "So fire someone then" and just his face trying to figure out how to respond.
