Free streaming sites are limited on what they offer, You're not going to find for example the Sega Saturn library on a free streaming site and it wouldn't do you any good anyway if you then want to transfer the files to disk or SDcard to then use in a real Saturn.
You'll also be hard pressed to find older obscure stuff on streaming services.
Also having the files yourself allows you to take then "where you want"...going camping where there is no internet? stick a few movies on an SD card or your device and off you go.
I download a lot of audio books, so I have an e-library of those if you will, I'll put them on a usb stick and then listen to them in my car at my pleasure..again no data use, no shitty connection issues...just pure stolen audio goodness when and where you please.
There's a thousand and two reasons why you'd want a "hardcopy" of something rather than relying of streaming services that again...have a very limited library.

I don't need to, I suppose. One reason I do it this way is that I don't know of any free streaming sites where I'd be able to get these shows at the ~exact same time that the people paying to get them on Crunchyroll do. There's like a 10 minute delay between the episode becoming available to me and to paying users of streaming services this way, and I tend to watch them as they air.
I could actually get them closer to 2 minutes afterward, but I wait a little bit longer for the closed torrent tracker I'm part of to get a hold of them, so I can earn upload credit with them. That's another reason. They have a pretty girthy library of Japanese content, and remaining in their good graces with seasonal anime seeding comes in handy if I ever feel like watching some obscure anime from 30 years ago.
And the final and most basic reason is that free streaming sites are shady and spooky and I always feel like I'm going to give my computer hepatitis when I use them. -

Shouldn't you be paying subscriptions for iTunes or Netflix so everyone can see how much of a rich wanker you are?

To unnecessarily elaborate on this: they do offer free leeching of 1080p torrents and raw DVD/bluray ISOs, but older anime was only released in standard definition (ie 480p... or 480i, idk) so I take a hit to my ratio when I want to watch stuff like this with English subtitles:
