   Watching this old movie now. It's about a bunch of Australian Navy guys. The Northern Hemisphere has been destroyed in a nuclear war, and they have 5 months before the radioactive clouds get to them and they all die. This was back when people were afraid of nuclear war. Everyone is white, the men are men, the women are women, there is no diversity, people get married, own homes, have children. Life in the 1950s is like science fiction.

   The whole black and white, 1950s, nuclear powered, retro-high-tech, white people, beautiful unspoiled planet, aesthetic is so beautiful.
   
   This film is in the same genre as Dr. Strangelove, exact same feel.
   
   It must have been so much fun to be alive and working in an airforce (or being an airforce wife) back then. Some of my family did that, they had amazing lives.

   The creation of Israel as a STATE was a black swan event. Them getting nukes was a black swan event.
   
   It's funny if you look back during the time of OPERATION DESERT STORM it was a coalition force against Iraq, but Israel wasn't allowed to join because it was thought that if Israel was involved, all other Arab states would join the conflict AGAINST Israel and help Iraq.
   
   If you look at relations now, Those very same Arab states would never go that far, most of them are economic allies with israel now. This entire timeline is FUCKED and it's pretty wild that a lot of this happened in the lifetime of people that are still alive
   
   It's just accepted that this the state of things, but then you see some Palestine in a mud hut that's been fighting the "occupation" since the 1940's and it shatters your entire worldview and you realize that empires that live for hundreds of years no longer exist, every country in the world is a nation state and believes "Bulgarian" or "Nigerian" is an ETHNICITY and you are committing GENOCIDE for murdering them when 100 years ago the idea that you could "Genocide" a "Nigerian" would make no sense to anyone because the concepts of nation states or genocide didn't even exist.
