Radiation is lots of fun to play around with. I want to go back to Chernobyl and stay a week and see if I can find some core pieces like Bionerd23 on youtube did, but it's probably all landmines right now.

its completely different. the video was about fissile material. the shit at chernobly isnt fissile...its just radioactive

Fission is what causes radioactivity, usually.

One experiment I did in university you put a metal (can't remember what it was, tin or something) into a reactor to get bombarded with neutrons, so it turns radioactive. Then you pull it out and watch the radioactivity decline over a few minutes. I always wanted to try that with different things.

i meant fissile material that could be made super-critical as in the subject of that video...as in could go boom. not as in the stuff they send up in spaceships to power generators or that they use in hospitals for assorted imaging machines. (stupid fucks protested near where i live claiming an accident in a rocket would blow up the state of florida)

    bad wording

Going boom is just due to thermal heating due to very fast fission. Like when you heat a lump of metal up to a million degrees, it'll destroy a city. I remember once trying to explain this to some "nuclear weapons aren't real autist".

At 9:30 in OP's video, he goes over how Slotkin took the other scientists back into the room with the sphere. That was the wrong thing to do, the sphere would have still been extremely radioactive due to short lived decay products in the metal. They were correct to run out of the room, and should not have returned for several minutes at least.

The power source required to get anything up to a million degrees to destroy a city would destroy the planet.

They didn't know that at the time
