Trying to purchase a decorative/collectible knife as a gift and have very little experience in this area. Any advice would be appreciated.

What type of knife are you looking for? Something millitary, or functional in general? Or just fancy looking.

It is intended to be displayed, functional would be cool but not necessary.

If it was for utilitarian reasons, I highly recommend fiskars, as a brand.

Thx I'll go look at some! They look very tough and useful, but am looking for something that would look sharp on display as well....

You're right that is a nice one. Looks like it is well balanced also.

Here is a completely different alternative. http://www.ecrater.com/p/19747385/hand-made-custom-damascus-karambit?gps=1&id=81021731659 I love Damascus steel for it craftsmen and time tested quality when crafted by an accomplished smith. Add that into a karambit and you have a very effective tool in terms of it's intended purpose.

Yeah, these things are deadly as fuck. If you wield two in a fight you could do some pretty serious damage with what would normally be just your fists.

Yes, they are Indonesian in origin if I'm not mistaken. It has been a weapon in Huc Chung Kun Tao/Kun Tao Silat for thousands of years.
