   But the very idea of genetic selfishness is a meta-concept that emerges not from the nature of genes but the logical relationships between their propagative tendencies (which are not inherent to them, they're just what's left) and their vectors of propagation. The is no reason to believe the relationships stay the same when their vector of propagation changes in nature.
   
   Yes, utilitarianism doesn't work for dogs and platypi and shit. But we're not dogs and platypi and shit. We have the benefit of higher order reasoning.

   I tend to agree with CF's thinking. Even if we do have "selfish" genes, there is no reason to think we don't function more cooperatively in society under a different set of normative moral values.
