Part of what bothered me enough to isolate and detach myself to such an extreme extent for so long, nearing the point of self-destruction, and still refusing to make a genuine effort to change.
It truly is a type of hell. Of course the standard interpretation of that quote is simplistic and completely inaccurate. -

I think studying philosophy might be a great fit for you. Like you said, a structured environment but also people who will put up with you, challenge your ideas, some that are smarter than you and will shake your confidence a bit if you don't try and rationalize away every failure. Could be good mang -

Malus the type of nigga who concedes a point in a debate because he's mad about both the fact that he's being contradicted, and that he can't see why the opposing argument wrong either. -

Being a literal hiki really fucks you up cognitively, along with severe depression. Shouldn't be hard to believe. Main thing I'm concerned about is how my ability to communicate has gone to shit over the years. Even via writing my post quality, length, and frequency drastically declined over the years. I completely lost interest in the world for years.
Also concerned about how controversial some of my stances are and how I genuinely do not care about the perceptions of others. I have no problem saying the exact things I write online IRL. At the same time, there are genuine risks involved with it. I suppose at the very least I should avoid advocating the extermination of all life, the human race, or certain groups of people.

No, it's because strict adherence to rationality is my ideal. -
2017-06-12 at 7:37 AM UTC^interesting
Since I've retreated from society (still see a few family members, and still go to work everyday but that's it) I've lost the ability to communicate most of the time as well (not that I ever really had it in the first place, but...)
I will have seemingly random times where I become much more articulate, but it won't last long
Also if it's something highly technical that I understand well I can communicate/teach it pretty well -

I mean that's part of the beauty of the modern philosophy department. Near cultural irrelevance and a dearth of funding eternal has one positive outcome: academic philosophy is freer from social mores than most any segment of the modern world barring, perhaps, fringe internet communities. Aside from an explicit call to racial violence people will listen to what you have to say. They'll probably disagree with you, academic philosophers are not wholly separate from society, but the ideals of chairatibility and dialectic remain alive in american (analytic) philosophy.
I mean in reality you'll probably just dismiss any argument you don't like as the product of filthy irrational liberals, but there's still a glimmer of hope for you yet -

It's actually something that seems to occur naturally, is commonly reported. When people are isolated, for whatever reason, their interpersonal skills tend to become greatly reduced and they feel awkward, even anxious, around people. Takes some time to get back into the habit. Apparently jobs where you're forced to interact with people tend to be great for alleviating this and improving all the issues I mentioned above your baseline, but lord I would not want to do so. I genuinely do not want to speak or generally even communicate with people, it simply satisfies an innate biological need human beings have. -

That's literally what the idiotic Athene "logic nation" dude says, and he is a fucking retard. In fact the aforementioned has happened countless times in your arguments. Your imperative is confirmation, not to divine the truth. You've somehow deluded yourself into believing that your àutism gives you rationality superpowers, but it really just gives you tunnel vision and bars you from the pathways to reasonable conclusions that empathy opens up for you. -

Academic philosophy has become a bit trite these days, unfortunately. I honestly think that it does someone no good to take a deeper dive into any given issue, because formal logic is at best unreadable and unsatisfying, it's literally the deepest dissection of niggleling details of formal logic.
The problem with philosophy today is that philosophers have stopped limiting themselves to the study of what ought to be, and have started to extend into the study of what "is"... What "is", is not their domain. This is why you have fucktards like Zizek (who I actually really enjoy listening to on particular subjects, not because I agree but because his thought processes are interesting) who comment on things that are definitely not their domain, such a economics. -

Nah. He just seems like one of those secluded bookworms who would wander the halls of university muttering theories to himself no one else understands. That's basically what ultra elite professors do. -
2017-06-12 at 9:13 AM UTCThere is no way in hell I would ever become a professor. Academia has countless problems, it is a nightmare and an incredibly poor path in life.

How long have you been participating in the community? I've been seeing Malice for yeeeeeeeeeeeears and he has only confirmed my view over time. -
2017-06-12 at 9:37 AM UTCCF, didn't you use to be a dogmatic moderate Muslim for a long time along with being against drugs? IIRC it was only you actually tried hippie cabbage and psychedelics that you began to change. Who knows what other moronic views you may have had and may still have.
You don't know everything and have clearly been spectacularly wrong about wide ranging subjects of great importance. Don't act like you're elite. -

No.along with being against drugs?
I still am, for the most part. But now it's less of a principle stance and more a pragmatic one.IIRC it was only you actually tried hippie cabbage and psychedelics that you began to change. Who knows what other moronic views you may have had and may still have.
The first time I ever tried drugs in my life was around November of 2016. So if you think my supposed transformation happened then, then go look up some of my posts before then and show me any major shift in my world views, I'll wait. It was a pot gummy, and I began using it for pain relief from an injury, and shitposting in TRT like I was on Jupiter because it was funny. I've never done psychedelics in my life. The gummies had a psychedelic effect on me though. You don't know everything and have clearly been spectacularly wrong about wide ranging subjects of great importance. Don't act like you're elite.
I've been wrong on a great many things in my life. Of course. Of course I don't know everything. But I'm not the one who acts like a bastion of rationality, because that's not even remotely the optimal way to be. My only core value is to try to always be self aware and assess myself accurately, because being unable to see my own failings would be falling into the most common of all traps.
And that's the difference between you and me; neither of us are intellectually amazing, but I haven't convinced myself that I am. -
2017-06-12 at 10:49 AM UTCOmfg, this is like Christmas, I just found there's a free unprotected WiFi signal at my window. If I go to the right of the window its fairly strong enough. When my laptop is working I'll have to put a desk against the window. This is so fucking exciting man.
