The oil and gas industry is deeply embedded into right wing politics. If a decision is bad for the oil and gas industry, the propaganda activates the tribalism of the electorate to dutifully get in line.
The result is that most right wing voters deny the problem of climate change. When an entire wing of the electorate is in denial of climate change, this advances the interests of the oil and gas industry. it allows them to continue to rape the planet for profit.
People that cling to fossil fuels are living in the past and ignoring the reality in front of them. They don't care about the future for our children or grand children.
They are so wrapped up in propaganda that they believe themselves to be the victims of a giant hoax. Climate change isn't real, it's a hoax.
That other political faction is therefore deluded and misinformed and just plain evil. My political party is good and righteous and loves the oil and gas industry, which is great because I am good and righteous and love the oil and gas industry.
My political opponents are my enemy, and it is imperative that I elect a strong leader that can dominate and vanquish my enemy once and for all.
Also, look at which countries are major oil and gas countries and you will find an alignment of interests.
E.g. Russia, Iran. Russia, which is notorious for sophisticated and persistent propaganda, benefits as the oil and gas industry does, when the people think that burning fossil fuels is not a problem and that climate change is not a concern.
Russia (and others) deploy propaganda to trick people into believing that climate change is a hoax, and this helps them achieve their objectives.
Propaganda is used because it works. It appeals to the bias of people. People are scared, the propaganda exploits that fear and sells a perception that your tribalistic political opponents are the cause of all your problems. It is imperative, for you and your side, to conquer and defeat the other side. -

a combination of a 'warming' chemical reaction that is insulated by the mass of trash, which causes the temperature to get abnormally high because the warmth cant escape, turning it to heat, which causes other things to react in the heat which normally wouldnt have reacted. Then the heat gets even hotter...THEN gasses that are created in that compressed/insulated/overheated environment also become flammable, when they wouldnt have even been created, much less ignited, in normal atmosphere. sort of how charcoal is created in oxygen-less environments...only wood isnt as flammable as some of the reactants in deep trash piles. theyve literally found molten metal in those trash piles/pits after bulldozers tried to clear them out.
as a side note, one that isnt normally mentioned in the media, those out-gassing chemicals are some of the most toxic chemicals produced by humanity...bordering in toxicity to the assorted radio-nuclides as waste products of nuclear reactions -
