poisoning the oceans with an intentional oil spill

would it be feasible for a small terrorist group or something like that with access to money in the millions of dollars to plan an intentional dump of a fuckton of oil in strategic areas of the worlds oceans so that the resulting spill would drastically fuck shit up or maybe even eventually cause a massive die off of such large portions of the worlds ecosystem that it would jeopardize life on earth as we know it?

actually it seems like the best way would be to just bomb the underwater oil rigs rather than try to buy and dump all that oil

    it wouldn't work

Unlikely. You'd have to cover 332,519,000 cubic miles.

ok well whats the most damage you think could be done and how

I would come up with a substance which can corrupt water molecules in an exponential chain reaction, so you put a drop in the ocean and within minutes the entire ocean is destabilized. Maybe have it instantly separate the hydrogen from the oxygen.

wonder how much energy you'd need to rapidly melt the icecaps
  8. #8
It takes 334,000 joules to melt one kg of ice, so 8.85 to the 24th power joules to melt Antarctica.

i feel like it would be fairly simple for someone with half a brain to make a bunch of $120 homemade depth charges then get people on boats to just start dropping them on oil pipelines around the world all at the same time. obviously theyd all die or be put in jail forever afterwards but they could probably do a fair bit of damage

what if they get divers with drills to just swim along the pipeline and drill little holes every couple of feet or so for long distances so that the oil is leaking for a long time that way that could be like the sneak cheeze attack but then when they detect that the oil is leaking then you blow the c4 you placed as you went along earlier all at the same time

dump a lot of salt on it

The Creator has designed the oceans, and the Universe, in such a way that they are indestructible.

That’s the estimated TOTAL volumetric amount of ocean water. Are you saying that every cubic inch would need to be polluted before everything is b.fukkered? Or were you meaning to Google-reference the total oceanic surface area?

Also, all things are possible through Jesus Chrisht, so go ahead and jot that down EcoTerrorists

Well, I'm figuring it would have to be the total, because it'll all eventually mix and sink and dilute
  16. #16
you would need a surfactant to mix it , like soap or something
  17. #17
    or an emulsifier

A rapidly-expanding, self-replicating molecular virus, which feeds on water, would cause a lot of damage.

You could easily land terrorists on oil tankers and ram them into stuff. Or land them onto other ships and ram them into oil tankers. That'd be about the simplest way to do a lot of damage really quickly, and you could maybe pull it off with a few guns and a few paragliders.

where do you think all the oil comes from these days IDIOTS

it will just sink to the bottom you
