Technically it's natural human instinct, and been globally accepted by almost all civilizations in history until the industrial revolution, where due to human society advancing, including but not limited to increased age, and successful birth rates skyrocketing, and overall better standards of living allowed children to stay in school longer, and education started becoming a common task in everyday life.
