It's far more probable he has an internet addiction of sorts that has manifested itself over the years to the point where he can't do anything but stay online all day. Even the thought of going outside is too much.
The autism piece seems to come into play as his way of rationalizing what he's doing. He tries so hard to convince everyone he's autistic, because that's the only way he can justify his lifestyle.

And I'm genuinely pretty fucking autistic, Dargo. Computer/internet addiction fits pretty well with high functioning autism/Asperger's. I've had like 3 independent diagnosis and 2 of those people spent considerable time with me. -
