my fingernail is fucking stupid

2023-11-26 at 12:03 PM UTCthe other day i was peeling some dried paint out of this bucket and i guess was a little too vigorous and i ended up like peeling off the side of one of my fingernails from the skin and then the part of it that separated kinda spread to the base where (at least it looks like maybe idk) the fingernail grows from, so that the side of the fingernail and half of the base of the fingernail closest to the separated side was all separated from the actual finger but still just held in place by the part that was still attached. after a few days i got tired of this situation and just figured fuck it, im just going to peel up and out the parts that are separated so they wont end up getting caught on some random object when i go to use my hand and end up painfully ripping the rest of the nail off.
so i started peeling that shit up and got the side and the half of the base all off and all that shit and lo and behold, what do i see under the parts i ripped up? another fucking fingernail but its only like half thickness. so i guess my finger just decided to take it upon itself to grow a fucking spare fingernail underneath but its not a FULLY FUNCTIONAL fingernail or anything its just like a little stunted half nail thing but at the same time its attached to the rest of the original nail that never was damaged or ripped out and has just been there this whole time. and so now im just like....ive never been in this situation before, dont know what the hell my nail is going to do to fix that shit but im kind of interested to watch and see what happens. it doesnt really seem to have had a solid grasp of its function as a nail or what to do (idk where the hell it thinks it got permission from to use precious calories to build a little half nail thing in the first place, it definitely wasnt me because i would never sign off on such a waste of resources especially since ive been pretty calorically challenged and in an environment of scarcity these last few years.) and since it decided to just latch on to the other existing nail, it just seems like its totally winging it and im just like "fuck bro do you even think at all?" then i realize its just a fingernail so presumably no but then if it doesnt think then how the fuck was it just like "ima make this lil half nail homie will never know the difference lets go party LOL" -
