ours have cameras that check your trolley/basket etc to make sure you scanned everything, and they're starting to roll out AI cameras that record what you pick up in store and compare it to what you scan
so you have that to look forward to -

no technology such as pressure plates ?
over here they have a pressure plate where things you scanned must be place on it before being able to proceed further.
those that dont have several people in uniform watching and checking your receipt. -

And the pressure plate knows the exact weight of the item from the barcode scan, so if the platter is empty, or another item is on there, it knows by the weight. -

the pressure plate scales have been there from the start, they don't stop you from just not scanning things though -

True. They could just skip the scan altogether and throw it all in a bag. I saw one the other day that has a pressure plate on BOTH sides. So you have to place the item on the first plate, then when it rings it in, you have to place the item on the second plate or it won't let you proceed with the next item. I'd guess this is to make it entirely obvious to LP the items weren't scanned. -

You can avoid that by just putting it straight in your bag without pretending to scan it… the nearby monkey is just sitting there on their phone anyway they won’t notice. And since you’re wearing a mask due to COVID resurgence they have no video evidence of your face -

2023-11-15 at 1:53 AM UTCThat one with the two pressure plates, one of the right side of the scanner and one on the left side, is stupid as fuck, because as soon as you remove an item from the right hand plate, the alarm goes off, but that plate ends up with too many items on it to hold all the items being purchased. So, basically, the more items you have, the bigger the hassle will be trying to place them all on one plate. In fact, the machine will not even let you pay for all or even one of the items unless ALL the items intended for purchase are sitting on the right hand plate. So, of course, the monkeys are constantly attending to customers who have removed items and already placed them in a bag.

People will ring up items like steak and razors for bananas. So the weight is correct.
Or they leave items in their cart and dont scan at all.
Or they barcode.
Or they put small items like makeup in their bag of apples.
Or they ring up everything correctly and dont pay. -
