Anyway, I may recall that something may have felt off about the first season. Not entirely sure, may have just been that it takes a while to ramp up and greater depth to be revealed.
This season is actually pretty good. I'm planning to read the manga where it leaves off after it's done. It literally took 4 years until S2 came out and it's only scheduled for 12 episodes, compared to S1s 26. Not a content issue either, as it'll end before chapter 50 and the manga has around 96 now, IIRC. I've heard the basement is finally revealed, along with other important secrets. -

It's a shitty /a/ meme, I guess a typo that got proliferated. Yeah, it means it's bad.
I liked S1 until the halfway point where it devolved into biomecha. It had a good impact factor, good thematic buildup, I wasn't bothered by the slowness of progression except that stint where there's like 3 episodes of character development for recruits and half of them die in the following two episodes and you can't remember anyone's backstory because half the material doesn't matter and the characters all look like semi-mongoloid caricatures of Germans drawn by people who's only exposure to them is from American children's story books or something. But good thematic content, good tension, I was drawn into the world quite nicely, but it just shat all over the cool shit it had going by making exactly one character matter and making irrelevant the interesting power asymmetry. -
