That's crazy. -

2023-10-27 at 2:22 PM UTCMMQ on a scale of 1 to 10 where would you say your lie as a chess player (as an average run of the mill chess player not where 10 is grand master).

Depends on the time format. But, for the most part, I guess I would say I'm about average for anyone who plays semi-regularly but doesn't study chess at all really. Maybe even slightly below average. I make dumbass blunders all the time.
You? -

3 or 4...everyone I've taught how to play chess ends up beating me after a couple of months. -

Heard. I think I play too aggressively and impatiently nowadays. I used to be more defensive and take my time setting up solid positions, more or less playing it safe and simply waiting for my opponent to make a mistake. Now I just want to make something happen and look for the "kill-shot" as soon as I can, which often gets me into trouble. I need to go back to my roots. -

I think it's referred to as 'hope chess.' Make a move and hope for the best. I mean, I generally have a little bit of a plan but it's also very difficult for me to think more than 2 or 3 moves ahead. I just can't visualize it in my head lol. It's a little reassuring knowing that this is the case for the vast majority of casual players.
Then you got the fucking super GMs playing 5 people simultaneously while blindfolded keeping track of all the games in their head at the same time.
I recall hearing that Magnus has like 10,000 games just memorized, and I saw a thing where they just showed him random chess positions and he could recall what specific games they were from. -

2023-10-27 at 3:14 PM UTCRubix cubs used to drive me nuts then I saw one that only had 4 squares per side and I bought it thinking it would be easier. That damn thing was even more frustrating.
