it appears that the music festival was never actually targeted, the attack group was on its way to an IDF base but the IDF set up a roadblock near the festival and a lot of people got sandwiched between the two groups and killed in the crossfire. as per the interview previously posted, the Hamas attack group took hostages to a settlement, called the police and attempted to negotiate safe passage back to Gaza but the IDF showed up and opened fire immediately, killing more hostages.
it now makes sense why the hostages were allowed to call the police - the attack group's goal was not to attack the music festival, it was to attack the IDF base down the road but they were stopped and fled in a panic. with no way to accomplish their original mission they just wanted leverage to be used to return to Gaza.
what terrorists cant take a few mile detour ?

I thought it was just a cropping in of the same photo. are you sure the top one is from WWII because its in color and looks modern.
but this is what a firestorm looks like too. people compare it to being bombed out like Dresden was.
only difference is clearly some buildings are completely leveled. i'm sure Hawaii looked like this a bit as well. -
