most Islamic countries have backed Hamas to varying degrees. Iran never really had access to that money anyway; it was 'released' to a Qatari central bank and every transaction had to be audited by the State Department to make sure it was used for 'civilian purposes'. AFAIK almost none of it was spent before being re-frozen.

my guess would be KSA as the primary benefactor given that they have the money, the experience and connections to run movements like that given their recent history in Syria with ISIS, Al-Nusra and the various rebrands and offshoots that followed. it's also worth noting that from the beginning the Gulf states threatened to crash the oil market with no survivors if there was a ground incursion into Gaza -

It’s more about the logistics involved with smuggling and stashing all the weapons and building the rockets. But you’re right it’s just speculation. Yeah I never looked too much into it but that’s like a talking point on Fox News or whatever so I figured it was bullshit. The timing didn’t add up. I think people just used it as an excuse to slam Biden again as if we need one -

on the other hand maybe they predicted they'd never really have access to it so why bother with the pretense. -

yep, that's what I was thinking too, things are intensifying up north now though (maybe Hez is trying to get them to commit early) and tanks have been 'ready to cross the border' for a few days. people keep predicting they're going to cross because of periods of intensified air attacks but nothing yet. -

the main crossing at Rafah is controlled by the IDF even though it's officially in Gaza; the media's been saying that Egypt had closed it.
what's actually happened is that the IDF was blocking Gazans on the israel side and refusing to allow Egypt to deliver aid to Gaza, so Egypt officially blocked foreigners from fleeing Gaza and entering Egypt (the few people that the IDF was letting through). apparently there's been an agreement brokered through the US allowing Egypt to deliver aid in exchange for allowing foreigners to flee -
