the interceptors were $150k ten years ago when they were literally lying about the costs being $50k and the flying dingleberries can be made for less than $200. and of that $200, $150 is the cost of the explosives. an empty propane tank (sans the valving) costs about 99 cents -

the two interceptors are vastly different. the 'expensive' portion is the seeker head/avionics/guidance
patriots are all-encompassing SAMs designed to kill pretty much anything in the air at any altitude at 'medium' range. the iron dome is designed to kill ghetto-fabulous attacks by 'terrorists'...as in shooting down flying clown cars or glorified lawn-darts...at relatively short range. the actual physical size of a patriot is about double that of an iron dome
also, the US taxpayer paid for almost the entire iron dome project. -

arrow is a relative of patriot but is slightly larger and alleged to have an ASAT capability, meaning any-altitude within its medium range envelope. its designed to be a 'real' SAM to kill pretty much anything in the air. i dont know accurate prices...i havent been in the military since it came online.
iron dome is the cheap version of air defense intended to hit 'easy' targets, resulting in a cheaper interceptor with less capability.
the equivalent of needing to kill a gnat using a fly swatter (iron dome vs flying clown car) instead of a pile driver (arrow)...or needing to kill a pterodactyl from godzilla with a fly swatter (iron dome) instead of a pile driver (arrow)
absolutely an arrow would kill one of their airborne IEDs...but the US taxpayer doesnt want to pay $5 million for the needless fireworks show that would be the death of a $200 flying dingleberry
