I haven’t seen the clip but if it wasn’t a simple verbal flub, I can tell you right now exactly what he meant. Better access to healthcare is one of the major factors that reduces the need of populations of impoverished people to have more children to potentially replace the ones who die of tuberculosis when they’re like 6.
You ever wonder why families in America used to have 11 kids in the 17 and 1800’s, and now they have like 1.5? Because back then every third kid died before reaching adulthood and you needed more hands to work the farm. As technology and living standards advance, population growth stabilizes to a more sustainable level.
This is basic economics. Every first world nation has gone thru this transition, which is a natural process of industrialization. Places like Africa and India haven’t gotten to that point yet, but they will, as they develop better infrastructure and healthcare.
So he didn’t say “I am going to create a vaccine that will kill billions of people”, which is what you are saying he said. Which, if that was the actual plan he wouldn’t say it during a TED talk. You fuckin retard. -

Look dude I hate bill gates too. When people get to that level of wealth and power it becomes less about acquiring more wealth and buying “things”, so much as it is about using your position to try and change the world around you.
