yes but using and supporting ECOWAS in this scenario is just means to an end. why support ECOWAS in their intervention with money and material if france no longer intends to maintain their presence in niger.
say france supported ECOWAS overtly and/or covertly and ECOWAS succeeded, then what ? french troops and companies return ? french colonialism comtinues unabatted,

once the military government is defeated they claim that it had no popular support and was entirely illegitimate, and reinstate the deposed government along with their policies. if the deposed government is dead at that time they use 'democracy' to instate a friendly government in its place.
that is if they're thinking further ahead than 'new government bad have bomb' -

At some stage not knowing you've been beat stops being admirable and brave and becomes annoying and offensive.

I've just always felt bad for them, whether it's their fault or not they were tricked into a situation where there was absolutely no winning, even before Russia invaded.
