the last thing that ECOWAS want for optics now is being pro-french, for political reasons. it may intervene militarily but its not going to defend french forces should it come under attack.
the moment ECOWAS turn pro-french will be the moment people in ECOWAS member states begin to chimp out.

no, what I'm saying is that they might push ECOWAS into some kind of military intervention then back them up in a similar way that they back up the AFU, ie. arguing that funneling weapons and mercenaries into the conflict isn't 'direct involvement'. France maintains significant PMCs primarily employing Africans (I forget their names, will have to look them up) and Wagner (backing up Mali, CAR and Burkina Faso, who are backing the military government in Niger) are in a questionable state after the Prigozhin debacle -
