when I lived near the border people used to go to the USA to get groceries because despite the gas cost and whatever you still end up paying less in the end when shit like cheese is less than half the price
So to my understanding, the concept is that, by subsidizing american corporations, they can afford to lower prices, which also lets them appeal to a larger demographic? -
2023-09-22 at 9:17 PM UTCAmerican farms, which are highly corporate and industrial, because of all the subsidy making it very lucrative to invest in machinery, land, labor and drive down the cost even more with oversupply.
Because rural voters in the farm belt of USA have a lot of pull and get bigly tax breaks which is a good thing because you get cheap as fuck food but the downside is there's so much that a lot of it just gets processed into shit that makes Americans so fat and unhealthy like cheap as fuck cola corn syrup
Meanwhile in Canada we also have subsidy and attempt to engage in the same practices but our economy is so wrecked that we can't make anything close to that scale of production. Too many hands in everyones pocket, too many taxes and bad economy practices making it barely profitable for anyone
The only ones making money are the bread cartels and government. Farmers, workers and business owners are just making enough to get by
