LONDON, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Britain's long-awaited Online Safety Bill setting tougher standards for social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and TikTok has been agreed by parliament and will soon become law, the government said on Tuesday.

The government, however, has said the bill does not ban end-to-end encryption.
Instead it will require companies to take action to stop child abuse on their platforms and as a last resort develop technology to scan encrypted messages, it has said.

the encryption bit is interesting, either they're being sneaky and saying 'we're NOT banning encryption but we ARE introducing a rule that makes it impossible' or they're just retarded and don't understand how it works.

Content that platforms will be required to remove includes:

    child sexual abuse,
    controlling or coercive behaviour,
    cyber bullying,
    extreme sexual violence,
extreme violence against animals or people,
    fraud,
    hate crime and speech,
    inciting violence,
    illegal immigration and people smuggling,
    promoting or facilitating suicide,
    promoting self-harm,
    revenge porn,
    selling illegal drugs or weapons,
    sexual exploitation, and
    terrorism.

this site will probably be banned in short order

they don't want to explicitly ban end to end encryption like on messengers, but they want the provider to be able to decrypt them if requested

given the way that messengers like whatsapp, facebook etc. work in practice they're likely compelling the provider to generate and retain private keys instead of allowing the end users to keep them private.

which defeats the purpose of end to end encryption; there's literally no reason to use it in place of server-side encryption if the provider has the keys

So that’s not “scanning” then that’s a back door. Now I gotta go read the language that’s actually in the bill, not what gets fíltered thru these brain dead hack “journalists”…

They're saying there's currently no technology to break encryption but when there is they will use it.

Idk how this happened I didn't see any online petitions to vote against it.

I've done that AI age estimation and it said I look 18. People who look under 25 have to give ID. It means people can't watch porn anonymously anymore.

I don't see that age estimation thing ever taking off now that more people have access to Botox and better skincare treatments. There's already a shift in what people at a certain age should look like.

if they have the power to scan encrypted messages it goes without saying that theyre not just going to stop with child porn, theyre not going to stop anywhere especially coupled with "AI" which can harness a lot of data from insider trading to voting pattern and political leaning,

its going to be literally 1984 except with better graphics and special effects.

child pornography is just a convenient excuse in which they have tucked everything else into.

child porn is freedom porn, and if they could bar us from being able to access, possess, transfer or generate child porn, then they could bar us from anything they dont want us to have access to using generic, cookie cutter excuses that they use to bar our access to child pornography.

every reason you can think of to ban child pornography can be used to ban ... free speeches.

    try it.

Apple has also argued that it wouldn’t be possible to make changes to its messaging services’ security features without a software update required – so it couldn’t be done behind closed doors, as the IPA proposes. The company also stated, more broadly, that the IPA’s new additions “constitute a serious and direct threat to data security and information privacy” – not just for people who use Apple’s products and services only in the UK, but around the world (cited by the BBC).

yep, that's exactly what they're doing

Yeah I’m not a lawyer but it looks like they’ve effectively banned end-to-end encryption by making it an offence for a service provider to provide encrypted data to OFCOM in response to a request for user information. Under Chapter 4

It’s so crazy that the most coherent post you’ve ever written is a vehement defense of your ability to view child porn. Lmao

    *part 7 chapter 4

    (4) A person commits an offence if, in response to an information notice, the
    person—
    (a) provides information which is encrypted such that it is not possible for
OFCOM to understand it, or produces a document which is encrypted
such that it is not possible for OFCOM to understand the information it
    contains, and
    (b) the person’s intention was to prevent OFCOM from understanding
    such information.

we're not banning end to end encryption but you will be punished if you offer it to users without backdooring it

    lol

doubt there's any need, if he gets notices and ignores them (what are they going to do, come to Alabama and fight his COCKodiles?) they'll probably just block the site themselves
