what are the best bolt for exhaust manifold.
are stainless steel bolts any good or do their excessive expansion when heated is a cause for premature bolt hole metal fatigue that cause cracks to form. -
2023-09-06 at 5:26 PM UTCA lot of hot rodders use ss on headers and don't have any problems. Most broken manifold bolts I see are on aluminum heads, probably because of the difference between the expansion of the heads and manifold.
ETA: I think a lot of people worry to much about using the proper stuff. They recommend you replace torque to yield headbolts, now most folks around here kinda poor so I always try to save em a few bucks. I have reused these headbolts for years and never had a problem. -

it took me almost 2 hours to unscrew my exhaust manifold yesterdsy because i was affraid of breaking the bolt that hasnt beem unscrewed for more than 10 years fearing it could break.
which could be a nightmare and is thinking of replacing it with stainless steel bolts. -
