it's not like it can create reward hacking situations where people post garbage for thanks. without the thanks system, the site would just contain ~1,900 extra posts of people quoting me and typing "this" or "lol" instead my account having that many thanks, and we'd be farming "this"es and "lol"s and other shades of dicksuck positive replies.
if any positive reinforcement exists, prosocial human behavior dictates that people will use that as a guide for how to carry themselves here. the only way to avoid this is to engage in constant flame wars and have an entirely worthless community.
