van frame is cracked, can you put a fishplate on it

i bolted a bunch of heavy chit onto the arse of my van and put a bunch of weight on a hitch-carrier and then drivved it like a raped-badger on these hard roads for 50k miles and hit literary a thousand potholes or more plus a lot of wash boards and flabby ripples. yeah so anyway just aft of the rear axle on both sides the 'frame' ( id call it a hat-channel integrated/welded to the floorpan ) is buckled and cracked starting at the bottom and going up to the top.

its a 1ton GM , i thought it was a unibody but apparently its "unitized" ( sounds like a nice marketing term to pretend like its not unibody to me , but i digest )
Well unibody is not an accurate description for the 73-96 fullsize vans as they have a full frame under them. However the vans have UNITIZED construction where the body is WELDED to the chassis and part of the structure.

anybody in norcal know a guhy to beef it up cause otherwise im going to have to take all my treasures out , send it to the crusher ( and cry 20 dozen tears on my little pillow ) and get a prius

how do you find a guy to fix it because apparently its "forbidden" to fix a fucked up piece of shit

I just got back from Colorado today and literary had fun but now im depressed that im supposed to go to work tomorrow im thinking about just quitting because its gay and i hate it but i have to go in to pickup my toolbag either way, at least if i quit i can sleep in first. if i do quit i cant afford to keep living vacation forever because its a quarndry and literary my frame is cracked and my tyres are all decrepit and one just blew and the rest look ready to go, but im trying to figger out if its worth putting a new set on. honestly man, none of it really makes any sense but thats the plight of a blue-shirt in this new global economy

dump it and buy a used Odyssey with Low Miles and sleep in it. or a Honda Pilot. also you might have to put your motorcycle in storage. thats prolly 350 bucks a month.

I didn't know what fish-plate meant. so its basically what people use as a lift kit? like have these plates welded until you hit a certain height?

its like a bandaid ... made out of metal. probably all the wrong terminology but i think usually they fill the crack with a weld, and then put a bigger piece over the damaged area to beef it up and spread out the stress in the future. dunno why but when i look it up they are usually crescent shaped, i just pictured cutting a rectangle shaped piece to put over it.

heres a picture of a fishplate frame repair

the bracket my airbag is on i think is where my bump-stop used to be, its so close to the crack it looks like its in the way and would complicate the job

I think you can get super size bottles of CA glue (like superglue) from temu or amazon. then when you glue it on, you throw Baking Soda on it and it hardens instantly and rock hard. Im not lying. on youtube they showed the USAF used this to fix holes in F-35 and the Spirit B-2 that got bullet holes in them.

cant find it but here is one

cinimin, baking soda, ash and other powder shit will harden like a diamond.

    temporary fix

Because you need a type of catalyst according to the video. an accelerator thingy ma bob added. something that makes it bond like steel in a second.

if you're using a big flat plate like this and can't find a welder, you just use a shitload of superglue and dampen the partnered area you're applying the steel plate with glue on with baking soda. dampen it for the soda to afix the plate with the superglue on that side and make sure you apply the thing onto it. one time shot. get as accurate as possible and slap it on and push it in tight for a few seconds. it will heat up pretty hot. but won't burst into flames. it might smoke or steam a bit so dont breath around it.

glue on plate and dampen the cracked area so baking soda sticks to it easier. then align the metal plate with the glue (obviously) facing the cracked axel/chassy whatever and push it against the thing and make sure your fingers dont get stuck in there or you're fucked.

and then use the bottom of your shoes or bear feet and press it for a few seconds. it heats up fast

maybe both the front and back side of it with a plate on both sides.

then take it to a honda dealer and use it as a down payment on a lease for a Honda Odyssey with collapsible back seats (that go into the floor board) and you can fit a full site double mattress and live in a new car for 3 years. rinse and repeat the new car lease in 2026
