It's a standardised curriculum for US schools to adhere to, rather than running roughshod all over everything and teaching whatever cockamamie bullshit they want. The most important part is mathematics. The only real argument about it is some nutjobs who think it is obama trying to turn their kids into muslims or some shit.

Yes, we invented math because we knew that niggers would never get it.

If you want a percentage just move the decimal to the left one spot and multiply.

    87% of 47 for example.

    4.7 * 8.7 = 40.89

Related question: how would you go about finding 85% of something? Would you find 15% and then subtract that amount from the original amount or would you add up 8 of the 10% findings and then a 5%? Or would you use a different method?

I just multiplied it, the numbers involved are pretty simple. Then just add the decimal at the appropriate position.

How the hell do people not know basic math like this?

Yeah but do you just do 4.7 * 8.7 in your head? If you have that down then I'd like to hear your mental breakdown of that calculation. It took me about 30 seconds to get it like this:

    Break 87% down into 50%, 25%, 10% and 2%.

    So

    50% = 47/2 = 23.5

    25% = 23.5/2 = 11.75

    10% = 47/10 = 4.7

    2% = 47/100 *2 = 0.47*2 = 0.94

Then I'd add up the decimals and the whole numbers, then those two numbers

    0.5+0.75+0.7+0.94 = 2.89

    23+11+4 = 38

    38 + 2.89 = 40.89

This is more ordered, while actually doing it, I ignored the decimals first after taking the percentages and did the whole numbers, and got to 38, then I did the decimals.

I find it easier, even if it's a bit slower, to approach numbers from below, additively. So for example, I'd first try to break it into 75% and then 10%. If it isn't easy to divide into 3/4ths, then 50% + 25% + 10%.

It's my belief that you will never make a maths mistake if you just follow procedures correctly and in order, and are willing to think clearly and steadily. And the more you practice it, the better you get.

Yes, I can multiply 4.7*8.7 easily in my head. It works like this.

    47 * 8 = 376 so 4.7 * 8 = 37.6
    47 * 7 = 329 so 4.7 *. 7 = 3.29
    37.6 + 3.29 = 40.89

If you can remember two numbers for 5 secs it's not difficult.

because you're a sub-average intelligence contrarian. your entire personality is based on feeling like you're cooler than most people, but also better through a sort of pseudonormalcy.
