The horrifying results of defunding the police

The movement began as a response to police brutality and excessive use of force, which has been shown to not be very effective at "combating" crime. You know what has been shown to be effective at preventing crime? According to the sources provided in the video, giving people access to resources to help them deal with their problems and climb out of poverty.
Oh, so when there was a school shooter in Uvalde the police simply stood around and allowed the crime to continue to occur because they didn't have enough funding to respond to the violence immediately? I guess 37% of that city's entire budget just wasn't enough.
Ah, there it is. Your true motivation. The essence of aldra.
Are you a member of the ownership class? Do you have a lot of capital you need protected against the masses?
Or are you among the masses? Assisted living? Do you contribute anything to society?
If you were to be involved with police, are you more likely to be the one putting money in the officers pocket, or more likely to be the one getting your head cracked open for being a weird little gay girly boy?
I thought you had a little more self awareness.
I'm not of the "ownership" class, no. And, wait... would you look at that? I'm not dead either! It is not currently the year of our lord 1869; and blessedly, neither am I a working class 7 year old European coal miner who has to work because my dad lost all his limbs in an industrial accident. Consider the possibility that, perhaps, your contemplating divinity was less of a waste of your life than pushing folks to view the modern world through the lens of deranged political and economic philosophy from an unhinged, unemployed lunatic who lived in a world 150 years removed from our own.
Yes, I am on assisted living. I receive a pittance in secular alms, and exist as an apartment dwelling hermit mendicant. I am extremely grateful for what I receive. Nobody is morally obligated to support me, and the fact that people do not really have a choice in the matter is something I find morally concerning enough. I find it ironic that the guy who posts cart narcs seems to be mocking me for conscientiousness. "Not putting the cart back? What a piece of shit. Anyway, c'mon HTS, I didn't think you were retarded: obviously your beliefs should be the ones that maximally benefit you personally."
Also: I've been to jail. I've had multiple interactions with cops. As such, I reserve my right to interact with police in the classic, roguish spirit of mutual understanding: though we may be spiritually at odds, I can still respect them for the good they actually do. Honestly, they're usually pretty friendly with me. Only one government employee has cracked me upside the head: a corrections officer, and frankly, it was 100% justified. I thought I'd been extrajudicially renditioned to a CIA blacksite for training, because I was having a meth-induced psychotic episode. This being the case, I made the logical decision to charge naked out of my cell the first time they opened the doors after tossing me inside. That probably would have been an even worse idea at a CIA blacksite - I don't know what the fuck I was thinking - but it turns out to still be a plenty bad idea if you only made it as far as the local jail. One quick crack to the face had me right as rain though, and I felt bad for causing him the trouble. Why feel bad? Because I was in jail for crimes I had actually committed. Crimes which I would eventually plead guilty to not because a convenient plea deal was offered, but simply because it was the truth.
Fuck, man. This is why I don't trust leftists for shit. You guys talk a big game when it comes to being good people, yet all seem to have one of two flavors of ethics: those of a two-bit crook, or those of a witness at a witch burning trial. I want to see a pic of you so I can add your physiognomy to the list of ones to avoid. -
2023-08-05 at 10 PM UTCThey literally put me on suicide watch every time I end up in jail, just because the first time I got arrested I had a teensy weensy panic attack about my (once again deserved) impending confinement. That's annoying, because it means spending days wearing nothing but a rigid, scratchy pink tunic while you wait in solitary confinement for the facility psych team to clear you. Usually they come while you're at court for the day, so you can spend like a week in there just because you weren't around to meet the doc. Being bored, I decided to repurpose the only thing permitted to enter my cell. I made myself some Wilsons with the tangerines from my lunch tray (volleyball meal trays weren't 'til the week after I got released, sadly).
Getting my head cracked didn't bother me, as I've mentioned. But that doesn't mean I'm a total dicksuck with authority figures. The actually morally repugnant corrections officer I encountered was the one who wanted to take my precious Orange Wilson friends. Remember, I'm technically on suicide watch here - I'm not in solitary because I've misbehaved, and suicide watch means losing all the same privileges as someone being severely punished (ie all of them). This means I have 0 entertainment or recreation besides those retarded oranges. The cunt wanted to take the single source of joy available to a person who, at least on paper, was there on suicide watch. I questioned the reasons for her desire to remove my precious Orange Wilson friends from my cell, and she claimed if I didn't give them to her she'd write me up for destruction of prison property. She meant the tangerines. She posited that by carving faces into them, I'd destroyed them, and she was supposedly quite cross with me for this. I noted that surely eating them as had been intended would not have been less destructive. It was about that point she told me I was the biggest asshole she'd met in 18 years as a CO and stormed off. That bitch has probably spoken to literal rapists, murderers, and child molesters, and I'm the biggest asshole she's ever met because I... talked back when she tried to rob an apparently suicidal person of the one positive thing they were clinging to?
That lady, and her petty abuse of authority? Yeah. She's a bitch and everything wrong with the system, and doubly guilty because people like her are what drive people to retarded extreme countermeasures like anarchy. The guy who socked me in the face? He was just doing his job. Didn't feel great for me, but I didn't really give him many options.
It's called having a code, Obbe. A tran got to have a code. -
2023-08-06 at 12:04 AM UTCwhen I was a youngn, a tranny was what shifted gears in a car. and if you drove that car a bit too rough, you would drop that Tranny.
also make sure that tranny is juiced up too. nohomo -

When you've reached the point where they literally make comics about you, you have to question the safety and well being of the person. -

Officially it's "zed" and "legalisation" here too. I'm pretty sure. We also do our dates the fucking goofy way, if I recall third grade correctly - 9/11 is November 9th rather than September 11th. While Trudeau is a piece of shit, he's a patriotic piece of shit (in that very Canadian sense where "destroying your country with progressive politics" is an act of patriotism). He'd say zed. -

in essence being armed allows a woman to defeat a larger, stronger man who means to harm her - a single-shot pistol would do the job. what if there were two men? you'd need more than one bullet. if she's anxious or nervous, probably a lot more.
at what point should it stop though? fully automatic weapons allow you or a small team to use fire team tactics, but can also be used to take a group by surprise and kill them quickly. man-portable rocket weapons can defend against light vehicles but can also be be used to destroy a train or a plane as it takes off or lands. nuclear weapons serve as an effective deterrent but could be used to raze a city.
as weapons are made available to address power disparities between people and groups, they also empower the individual to use those weapons offensively or recklessly.
personally I'm all for legalisation of all kinds of weapons but I don't think it's possible for a society or state to function if the individual is empowered in such a way, past some point or other
no amount of arming the individuals will solve the problem because the INDIVIDUALS IS THE PROBLEM.
the only reason people in the US think they need individual protection in the form of firearms is because they think they are all independent individuals.
but humans are not single unit of individuals.
we are a collective made up of thousand uopn thousands of like minded, like geneticed organisms.
and as long as "americans" cant live as a collective society massive individual oriented crimes and asssaults will continue to happen and no amount of firepower is going to end them.
fix the society and you will no longer need firearms. all societies can be fixed if you keep genocide as an option. -

Let me slot a sandy, choom. it'll be fine. "military grade"? sounds like something a well regulated militia should have access to, cyberpsychosis be damned.

2023-08-09 at 12:56 PM UTC(I posted that because it's kind of the reductio ad absurdum for "force equalizers", illustrated and animated. I hate that I kind of agree with you on this, aldra, but there probably is a line that it is sensible for societies to draw wrt a positive right to self-defense.
There are some quirks unique to the context of cyberpunk that make it a philosophically fun example too: sure, "everyone should have gun" makes sense to me, because owning a gun is not particularly burdensome in my mind. But for a bit of insight into a shitlib's mind: what about things like body augmentations that make you incredibly effective in combat? I think people should have a right to those, but... the guy in that clip is a walking tank, and it's because he's practically made out of the same stuff as tanks.
Being able to defend yourself from him is a huge burden - it requires becoming like him. It's a burden financially, obviously, but also like... physically and psychologically, medically; but also spiritually. "Everyone has the same right to self-defense - carry a gun if you're worried about people with guns" is a favorite refrain of mine, but I can't see myself saying "everyone has the same right to self-defense - chop off your arms and replace them with rocket launchers if you're worried about cyberpsychos".
Maybe objectively owning a gun is far less burdensome than chopping your arms off and welding on some military surplus in their place, but this is the reductio ad absurdum. There is a point where it's reasonable to draw the line, and I can kinda see the merit in some arguments for why it should be drawn with firearms - expecting people to carry is maybe at least a little psychologically burdensome. It essentially asks everyone to carry their very own hybrid memento mori/sword of damocles, and to live in constant awareness that in a given public space any number of those swords will be hanging over their head. That sounds fairly spiritually and psychologically hellish, from a certain perspective.) -
