2023-06-25 at 10:36 PM UTCIt freaks me out when I can see the bottom and it looks close when I know it's not. I can't swim properly, would do five strokes then tire and they aren't proper strokes. I went to a maritime museum here and there was a room like the bottom of the ocean, I felt fear and dizzy. It seems strange to me because not much else scares me. I can do abseiling.

I have a crippling fear of drowning/deep water too, hence the issue of needing something that will definitely only collapse at a depth where I'd die instantly. My family used to rent a cottage on a lake for a couple weeks every year, and the end of the dock at the cottage was probably at about ~8 feet. 20 feet out from the dock and you couldn't really see the bottom, and even that terrified me (even knowing the lake was probably no deeper than 50 feet at any place, and being a competent swimmer - it's just the unknown, maaaaaan).
The compartment I'm in flooding at 500 feet, and me dying from the bends as I swam to the surface (or just drowning) would fucking SUCK. Worst ways to die. It's kinda neat to learn that deep water is either basically the best way to die or the absolute worst, with ~no in-between. -

Why do you think you're scared of it? My fear isn't drowning it's just being at the bottom of the ocean and nor alone.

So if somebody put your feet in a pail of wet cement, waited an hour, then dumped you over the side of the boat in the deepest part of the ocean, that would be upsetting for you? -

IDK what a cure for wellness is, but I think it's just the "unknown" aspect of abyss, y'know? The fear of the dark, more or less. Back when I lived with my parents, I'd still get the urge to full-on sprint up the stairs after turning all the lights in the basement off. Why am I afraid of the dark? For fear of what it hides, I guess. Doesn't really matter if on a conscious level I know my basement is safe or that there are no terrifying deadly monsters in the freshwater lakes of Northern Ontario, y'know? Deep water is basically that dark basement fear, plus the water itself is deadly.

I mean, the fact that cement is incredibly basic and would give me chemical burns long before it set around my feet would be extremely unpleasant in its own right. Being tossed overboard and drowning would be a very unpleasant and terrifying way to die too though, of course. Drowning is for sure in my top 5 terrible ways to go. Could maybe be even worse if death isn't a thing though - like if I'm already in hell, and as a result of this I just ended up trapped at the bottom of the ocean until the sun boiled all the water away a few billion years from now. -

Well, at least if death is real, I'd be blessedly dead/unconscious long before then. I wonder how long it would take, if death isn't real, for me to come to terms with my situation. And, how long after that it would take for me to begin going completely insane. -
