So probably ISIS bombed an Ariana Grande concert, killed 19 and injured 50 people. Apparently the security didn't check anyone's bags so people could just bring in like however much explosives and weapons they wanted. But at a crowded setting like a concert you could probably throw a hand grenade and cause almost that much damage. You'd think the worlds scariest terror organization would be able to organize something a little more devastating, wouldn't you? I mean even just one backpack full of explosives can fit enough power to kill a shitload of people.

in terms of attacks outside Libya, Iraq and Syria (now also Afghanistan and to some extent Indonesia) they usually aren't directly affiliated, people independently run attacks and say it was for ISIS or there's no official culpability so ISIS takes responsibility for press

they're nowhere near a regular army but they've come up with some interesting tactics and the core group is obviously well-trained and now highly experienced - when they first became a problem they overran a bunch of Iraqi bases (largely through the Iraqi forces being told to retreat, but eh) and took their hardware. tanks, artillery and APCs that the Iraqi army needed 6-12 months training for were integrated into their attacks within 24 hours.
yeah, their real strength is in their marketing though. from the beginning they gave western media all the grotesque war porn they could ask for, and in return all that attention got them floods of foreign fighters in the form of disaffected muslim youths in western countries... I guess that's their problem though. They have very few real 'soldiers', most of their army was amphetamine-fueled rapists and power junkies, and when Russia and Iran started helping the SAA turn the tide they realised they weren't invulnerable and that there was a very good chance they were going to die

Isn't ISIS mostly composed of Baathists who were banned by our fucktarded coalition force from entering the government again on any level? We basically forced all of Iraq's good administrative talent into ISIS lol.

not really related but it came to mind thinking about ISIS selling stuff to raise funds
early on the war the rebels apparently took a government storage facility that was full of old WWII German weapons, probably from Rommel's Afrika Korps:
