we're talking about the regular air force here, so manned aircraft. they're starting to use high-altitude bombers now that the effectiveness of Ukrainian AA is heavily degraded.

the presence of any SAM complex changes the logistics of using regular aircraft for the sheer hit to cost-benefit ratio; even if we're talking older complexes like the BUKs or HAWKs where hit probability is relatively low it's not generally a risk worth taking, especially for large bombers that aren't all that fast or maneuverable and cost hundreds of millions (nevermind the cost of training new pilots and crew) to replace.

idk, i feel as if you're talking about military doctrines as if they're the be all end all of everything military.

imho military doctrines are just an extension of political and economic policy. military doctrines is just one of the ends to those political and economic objectives.

also isnt the accuracy of dropping bombs from bomber less accurate than linear and ballistic missiles ?

yeah, but they're unguided glide bombs dropped by a computer hooked into the bomber's avionics to increase accuracy - they're MUCH cheaper and can deliver more explosives (by weight) faster when they don't need to fly hundreds/thousands of kilometers independently.

US has a similar program called JDAM which straps a computer to old unguided munitions so they can be aimed precisely, the Russian version hooks into the bomber rather than the bomb so you don't have to buy a kit for every munition

    Okay here's my theory

All Russia needs to do is come clean and say they made this up right

    it's acrually a 8D chess move

now all they do is say "Yes, we lied, you caught us world. We also tried this with the Muscova and we are ashamed"

And then boom SMELKALKA THe russian was just trying to make something out of nothing like the ingenuity clever Russian they are and now the citizen can not be upset they lost their flagship carrier

It was just smelkalka my comrades, Putin is truly a visionarY!

In fact this entire military operation , the tanks with no fuel, stolen wires, BLAME IT ON THE AMERICANS

and when nobody buys it you simply admit to the world that governments do this constantly (make shit up and false flag) and nothing they say is true. The media will say FAKE NEWS THIS IS JUST ANOTHER LIE

but nobody will believe that, they will believe the side that actaully admits when they fuck up. It's genius

you mean like those fabulous-500s and 1500s ?

doesnt the moment they put strap-on wings onto those bombs they ceased to be unguided bombs and started to become moderately guided bombs ?
  12. aldra JIDF Controlled Opposition
yeah FABs and the newer KABs

slapping glide wings on them just makes them move more predictably, the computer determines when to release them based on target location, altitude, airspeed, wind etc.
  13. you mean those wings dont move and steer the bomb at all ?

not sure but I don't think so

oh you're right, that's actually a KAB which can be guided

couldn't find a photo of a modified unguided bomb
