I remember you once said you noticed a clear inverse correlation between intellectualism and how amusing/funny or just generally enjoyable the company of a person was.

Highschoolers do tend to be dumber, not have their heads filled with the dry topics we tend to obsess over as we get older, and there's also the drastically lowered inhibition, cultural conditioning, lower consequences etc.

Makes sense that they would be bretty funny, in their own way. Silly, goofy, less self-conscious, they amuse us, like clowns.

Or we could just have a childish sense of humor.

I don't really mean it in that way. IDK, maybe I hung out with different people in high school. It's like as a young child you have a lot of creativity, as you grow you gain knowledge, facts about the world, material to make comedy out of but gradually lose that "creativity". You can make comedy out of a bunch of facts, like puns (my prefered form of joke) can be produced by formula and a sufficient vocabulary (used loosely, not words, but like punnable phrases or topics) but there's a reason people think of it as the lowest form of comedy. Around highschool is when, I think, people gain enough knowledge about the world to make an interesting joke and before they lose the creativity that makes really spontaneous comedy funny.

Maybe the peak confluence of those two forces happens at different times for different people, my social group was upper-middle-class white losers so relative to typical intellectual development there was probably more knowledge/intellectualism and less creativity but that same apex should get hit in the course of most people's psychological development.

Yeah, I think another way of putting it is that as you gain a greater understanding of the world the possibilities just seem to be drastically reduced, in a way, there isn't the same sense of wonder and mystery. Like, back in the day stories about the paranormal, shit like magic, ghosts, ESP, aliens etc. seemed kind of plausible, but now you just can't pull the wool over your eyes and make yourself believe anymore, just forget for a moment that it isn't total bullshit.

That's really at the core of what makes childhood lose it's "magic", the lack of novelty. And it only gets worse as you age! Just another one of the countless reasons why it's such a bummer to be a human being/why the human condition is so terrible, and drinking ourselves to death or going on benzo binges seems more and more appealing...

Actually you kind of can... Find a creepy abandoned house or building out in a remote place and go there at night on a "ghost hunt" or fuck with a Ouija board or whatever and then type that with a straight face
