on topic though a book on the Dirlewanger Battalion might be interesting, Dirlewanger was a nazi who built his military units entirely out of criminals and people who were interned in insane asylums, they were responsible for a lot of the most serious and bizarre crimes of the war

I dunno, there's a bit of a parallel there but it's not like penal battalions are anything new. from what I can tell Wagner are around 2:1 prisoners to mercs and the prisoners are brutally disciplined, not allowed to run wild.
